Well, first impression of the game, the UI is very cumbersome, have to click click click just to get somewhere simple. Also, it requires a pretty good graphics card to play, I have two 9600GT's and It still has low framerate with settings all to low, I've played games with much better graphics than this game and had no problems. Server is very laggy, and getting passed the loading screen takes about 1-2 minutes. Already I've noticed some misspelling on certain dialogs. Overall, I think the game is pretty unoptimized as of now, but hopefully things will get better. Right now it's not even that enjoyable to play, things are slow and laggy.

im not surprised by the lagging and framerate issues. I don't think it's a hardware but rather a server problem. i had the same problem on my 9800GT with Aion during the open beta. The server is just so overcrowded that it's having trouble holding up. Even in places with little detail and no other players you will see fps issues because of this. Hopefully it will be fixed by release, but lag is probably going to last until that day or even a short time after.

it does seem a little click needy, but as far as frame rates and lag, i didn't really notice anything to bad. even in the crowded area. i've got a mobile ati 5830.

I'm pretty sure SLI isn't working at all in FF, and i can't even alt-tab out without it saying some error message about graphics.

Well, I put the game in window mode and it ran much better, still the controls are horrible, it's easier to use the keys than the mouse right now, the game still needs a ton of work.

just cuz i dont play a lot of pc games, what kind of controller would u use? xbox 360 with usb?

Then you should be good, you just have to make sure to configure it with FFXIV config settings. It should automatically be able to set it up, you just have to go in and hit it.

I have a 9800GT and didn't have hardly any lag in Phase 3 Closed Beta. Mostly just US lag and the need to firmly mouse click any windows. You should expect to run into dialogue issues in the new areas as they haven't yet been tested. I'm pretty sure the lag is mostly server side since they can't even manage to keep their own websites from crashing at the moment.

My pc not really high end at all, does what I need it to, so 2x 9600GTs should run this fairly well.

Yeah this game is meant for a gamepad, things got a lot better. I'm pretty sure SLI isn't working right for me, so I think the game is running off one card right now, I can't even alt tab out without it crashing, so I have to run in window mode.

So I'm about ready to call it quits. -.- I have no interest in twiddling my thumbs while SE works on deciding when it wants to stop fucking over everyone else that didn't pick that perfect opportunity right as open beta launched to get a registration code. With that, I don't know if getting the beta client to finish downloading is worth my time. So far it's at 1.5% after having downloaded all day, and it has a time remaining of 26:25:32 that I fear is not measuring hours, but days. In which case I might as well just wait for the game to fully release.

On that note I can try to save up some money for a graphics card that's worth it until then.

You could never alt+Tab in FFXI either, anytime you tried it crashed, thats why people came up with the Windower, HOWEVER We weren't technically supposed to use it It would occasionally cause issues with updates though, plus it wasn't developed by Playonline, so it is frowned upon and can get you banned for using it on FFXI. They rarely do though. Someone might end up creating one for this but since u can play it in windowed mode ok on XIV idt anyone will.

The downloader can be a bit odd. It'll download real slow some time, then quick, seems like it's a P2P downloader. It's still the first day of open beta, just give it some time I'm sure they are working on it.

The only reason it crashes on me is because it shoots me an error about graphics problems, guessing something to do with SLI. Steve doesn't have the issue it seems with his laptop.

My roomie did some tech stuff and opened some ports, so my download went MUCH faster. Having an IT roomie is so worth it.

As for Open Beta, Square-Enix didn't expect the high volume of customers, so they had to close it. I checked this morning since I tried to get my roomie a key. Perhaps they'll open it later.

I totally used the Windower in FFXI, and it was in Window mode in the Open Beta. I hope they keep that.

Just got codes for Kersi, Kailok and myself. I would try soon if you want in.

So I got the key now, but I couldn't get into the site cuz they weren't allowing new people to register (wtf?) so kai was nice enough to let me use his, but that doesn't seem to be working either!

So I might take that help... it's downloading at 1 kb/s if I'm lucky...

I don't think sharing my luck was lucky.

well i managed to get lucky, Thal gave me a hand and im all set and now dling the client however it's only going 77kb/s tops so it's gonna take like a day or two to finish all of it....

Try forwarding the ports, like Thal and I have stated a few times.

I did miss smarty pants it's steadily rising, at 400kb now.

Thal and I are totally smart.
