I never played FFXI but are those mobs like named mobs from FFXI. They look cool.

That makes me soooooo excited. They look so good.... I never really got into smn on ffxi, but if they bring it out here, which it seems they very well may, I'm totally trying it... I wonder what Shiva looks like. O.O

Those are classic Final Fantasy summons. In FFXI they were called Avatars and were pet mobs to the class "Summoner". There are many of them, these two being named Ifrit and Titan. All of the summons have elemental properties in the Final Fantasy series with a couple exceptions (Bahamut, the King of the Dragons and Odin, Celtic King of the Gods, of Valhalla, and Thor's daddy for example were non-elemental but usually the more powerful Summons.

There is lots of speculation that the dragon/water serpent creature is Leviathen, god of the seas, another classic summon. The dragon in the cut-scenes could be Bahamut.

2 things, number 1, when the hell did alexpanda and odin become summons O.o; and more importantly number 2, why does SE have an unhealthy interest in making titan wear thongs?

Omi, SMN got Alex and Odin just before the lvl cap increased to 80, they're kinda like 2 hr type summons tho.

And I really don't think there will be a SMN class, at least not for a WHILE. Seeing this stuff makes me all the more certain that the summons are meant to be gods of the land in this game. Like the serpent in Limsa's opening vid in the ocean, totally Leviathan. I would however LOVE to see summons like this cross your fingers.

fram what i could tell from the CG trailer, it looks like the things that shot out of the downed gi-fucking-normous airship look like they could be these.

Aye I believe - actually, I'm quite sure, that they're FFXIV's renditions of the summons. I'm excited to see what the other ones look like o.o they've gone through such a massive change already, even though they're recognizable. I've never seen them that large before.
