Please indicate interest to use Vent here. TE never had an active Vent account, but I can see the practicality if the LS is interested in having a way to voice chat when FFXIV comes out. If no one cares about Vent then no harm done.

If people seem like they'd like to use Vent, then we need to decide how to afford a server. My initial suggestion is to pay for it myself and set up a PayPal donations link like many guilds offer to pay for it.

Lemme know what you think.

I definitely want a ventrilo server. Especially due to the fact that they stated it might be a lot harder to talk during battle - I think we might need it lol and considering PS3 has no form of cross-game chat STILL...-.-...I mean I guess we could always party chat on XBL but not everyone has that.

i may be able to get one setup and hosted for free, a friend of mine already host one for a co-worker of ours on aion. i don't see why he wouldn't do the same. plus i'm gonna see if he wants to join ffxiv when it comes out anyways.

Omi's silky sweet voice was uncommon because he didn't know us, now we're summa his besties after bein' aroud us so long. :P

i got a vent server already set up, just made a phone call and its ready to go. will post details later.

What kind of limitations are there for this server? When I was looking into renting one they charged based on # of potential users you needed it for. Are we going to interfere with another group's needs?

Another friend at worked helped us set up this vent server, when i was playing aion he also set up a vent room for me and my legion mates. The most people we ever had on using vent at the same time was 13-15. Would be interesting doing a stress test just to make sure the room can support all of us

I probably won't use Vent unless we're going to do an event.

I tend to zone out when I play Final Fantasy games, and I get oblivious to outside surroundings and sound.

I think that's probably the only thing we'd use it for anyway. Unless some of us just wanna chit chat. But yeah, I think events are the main reason for getting it.

Events will be the primary reason for it, but we're also going to encourage anyone who can use it to use it whenever they can. To me it helps in putting a person behind the character, so I like it. Some people don't like ventrilo and may only use it during events, and that's no problem, but I'm hoping to get more than just a few people on vent

Vent...is...good.

I can see more people using vent in XIV than in XI because of the combat pacing. You can't just auto attack and type to all your LS mates, or stop your rotation as a tank to bark out orders. Even from early levels you keep fairly busy button mashing your abilities. So the idea was to have a vent available for people in groups that wanted to chat without effecting their character's efficiency in battle.

I can definitely see Vent being really useful, even for small groups or just chatting. Because like Thal said, it's gonna be difficult typing while playing just because of the constant button mashing. Personally I don't wanna take any time away from my bunny smashing to simply type "lol" or "Watch out for the pissed off sheeeeep!"

Though I do understand if some people aren't comfortable voice chatting. I myself am very quiet in voice chats unless I'm really comfortable with the people in it. And if/when we get this setup, keep in mind that NOONE is required to speak in the chats. Though Vent will still prolly be necessary for events just so everyone can at least hear officers for group effectiveness.

P.S. Omi I hope I can understand you better on Vent, cuz I hate having to keep asking you "huh?" on xbl lol

You guys make good points, but I tend to leave "voice activation" on. So.. every cough, sneeze, burp, and rage comment will be heard.

I usually use my keyboard during these games, so i'll probably find a button on there to push that won't mess with my ability to function properly. I'd use the mouse but that'd prolly get annoying after a while.
