should be sometime today, so i've a fun morning of finding things to do around the house when i could be out while i wait for the damn courier

Return to comp after maintenance is supposed to be finished, with an extra 45 minutes in case it ran slightly longer.

EDIT: And everything is up and running (sorta!) I have about 6FPS at best on low graphics settings, but I was able to log in an make my character.

Mended Ruain, I started in ul'dah just to see the intro, but i'm remaking in gridania. However i am contemplating starting in limsa when the game comes out because marauder, culinary, and fishing guilds are there, all of which i am doing.

Well just so you know it's not too tough to run over to each different city, the maps might be large but all the cities kinda border each other which makes it easy to go get their tele-crystals and such. So I'd go based off preference when the game releases :)

ya i'm still deciding between gridania and limsa at the moment. I dont think it will be a bad thing to not start in the city with all my guilds though. so i'll prob end up sticking with gridania

Welp, it wasn't taken, and Amanda let me fiddle around with the beta for a bit. Had a lot of fun with the game, though camera controls and whatnot are gonna be a pain to get used to.

Final Fantasy XIV: DONT YOU TOUCH THAT FUCKING MOUSE! must be the game's full title.

Well hopefully come full release it'll be better. Honestly the controls are too clunky at the moment..the camera is terrible, the targeting system is annoying, and the transition from one skill to the next isn't smooth enough - it just feels like everything is dragging along.

Yeah, graphically and conceptually, the game is amazing. But the controls and interface need some tweaking for sure. And it still annoys me that hp bars go down before your damage pops up, but it was that way in XI too. Dunno, it seems like it has a lot of potential, given a few patches, but its a little rough around the edges at the moment.

For a starting area I am beginning to like Limsa Lominsa more and more. Although no Archer's guild. :( Sort of reminds me of walking into an old timer biker bar where no one has thrown a punch in years. A bunch of pirates that talk-the-talk, but no bodies or slit throats lying in an ally. Also needs a rat or two running around to make the effect more complete.

I tried Gridania and liked that various forest scenery, ponds, rivers, but the network of pathways seemed overdone.

I tried Ul’dah and of course everything again is visually stunning, but the dessert scenery isn't for me.


I tried Limsa Lominsa and liked the open scenery views of the "city", likewise the starting area is also more of an open green land without the pathways. (we already can't jump, or climb over the simplest clump of dirt - so why limit our wandering freedom with a maze of paths)

Each city has its Pros and Cons, but I think they are fairly balanced when having to move from one location in a city to another.


My 2 cents...

I like Ul'Dah the most simply because it's the only of the 3 that actually feels like a city. Gridania has nice scenery but it's just a few buildings in the middle of the woods >.> doesn't really create the sense of epicness that Ul'Dah creates for me. And Limsa would be could if the residents didn't talk like idiots. If you're going to make them speak like pirates, at least make them look like pirates. >.> I agree though, the desert area isn't really my thing..
