Post by Kailok5090 2010-08-26, 14:21

During a video interview (See main page Video Interview topic) - SE states that, instead of solid items, monsters you defeat will be dropping materials needed to make a certain piece of armor. So, this brings up the topic of who's taking up what profession in our guild?

The 11 options are:

Disciples of Land:

Mining
Botanist
Fisher

Disciples of Hand:

Carpenter
Blacksmith
Armorer
Goldsmith
Leatherworker
Weaver
Alchemist
Culinarian

Now, I can only imagine a few of those being used to create armor (Blacksmith, Armorer obviously, Leatherworker, and Weaver) - So, any ideas on what you want to be? As for me, I think I might go Leatherworking, but it might be more beneficial to me as someone who plans on being a tank to be a blacksmith or armorer. I kinda wish they still had Boneworking, I enjoyed leveling that in FFXI but oh well.

It's hard to say for me, because I'll probably try to dabble in a little bit of everything, but seeing as I plan to be a lancer for the most part I'd also probably want to make armor, but I'm also interested in being an Alchemist. I might fish, too, just for funsies... if it isn't insanely difficult to level this time!

I imagine the fact that they are full classes this time around will make them much easier to level than they were in FFXI. In FFXI it was all about how much money you had or how much time you had to spend the time farming for hours and hours and hours getting the materials you need - This time around you get experience for farming those materials and making stuff. Actually sounds cool when you think about it. :o

on my off-time that i will not be spending on combat i will most likely do blacksmith and mining. i'd love to actually do real blacksmithing work in real-life.

its weird tho, a blacksmith in real-life was the one who made the weapons and armor.

Well maybe this time around, since there's an armorer, blacksmithing will be primarily for weapons? Somebody's gotta do it lol

Yeah I'd love to get into that. If you ever do lemme know it'd be cool to dabble :)

Also, you said you worked on computers right as both a job/hobby right? do you get a decent amount of work for that? say..enough to get a decent amount of money for month? (If you don't want to answer this on the forums you can either facebook me or PM me, I'm just curious because someone was curious to know).

This is a tough call, didn’t really do any crafting in ffxi since it was extremely time consuming and very expensive. I did promise myself when i started playing aion i would at least attempt to level up a craft. Got my weaving up to 250 and gathering to 200 (max was 450 so I was alittle off) I will most likely be giving weaving a shot in ffxiv not sure what to expect from the crafting system so i'm not making any promises this time around. Any of you beta testers have some feedback on how crafting is?

I believe Thal is the only one with the beta currently, and I dunno if he's dabbled in the crafting system just yet. I'm sure during open beta we'll get some posts up about it so people who don't have the ability to get into the open beta can still check stuff out.

Also, I leveled Bonecrafting up to 40 in FFXI but that's about it..I tried to get into otherstuff, I really wanted to do Woodworking but like you say, too much time and gil went into it.

well since i work at a retail store, the work is not always constant. especially since just like everything else its a seasonal job. but some weeks are better than others. but with it being a retail store i at least know i still have a job regardless of the amount of computer work coming in. because i can just go do something else in the store.

I'm going to do a bit of them all, but whatever the linkshell needs, I'll glad change my crafting to help the LINKSHELL I SAID LINKSHELL.

I'm not picky!

Currently I have decided to go with carpenter and also botanist since I can benefit from gathering my own materials. From what I have seen in the beta, the npc shops are going to have very few options. SE wants the DoH to pretty much create the game market. I will probably focus on the battle disciplines but figured I should pick at least one DoH to work on.
